Once upon a time (no fairy tale I promise you) the conservatory was utilised for a mere few months of the year when the sun shone and all seemed good with the world. During the windy autumn and the cold winter months the entire conservatory would be used as a storage place for all those odds and ends that had seemingly outgrown the main house. In spring they would either be taken to the local municipal dump or stood outside in the backyard (again).
Considering the cost of a conservatory it is the utmost waste to utilise it for such a small amount of time each year. With the easiness nowadays to heat a conservatory either by central heating linking from the main house or even with its own under floor heating system the conservatory can be enjoyed every day of the year. Personally I can think of nothing better than sitting in a beautiful warm conservatory in a comfortable chair watching snow falling outside.

Speaking of chairs brings us on to the question of furniture for our wonderful conservatory. During what we can call the inviting months to sit and relax in the conservatory it doesn't really matter what type of furniture you use or what kind of seats and chairs you sit on it is simply enough just to enjoy the garden and the surroundings. However during the colder months, even though the inside is warm you still need a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment available to all. One thing that is virtually impossible to do or would be a waste of money is to have two different sets of furniture for the winter and summer respectively. It is therefore essential that you consider investing in high quality furniture that would achieve a warm feel during winter but would not seem too heavy or dense for the summer months.
Ideally cane furniture or maybe rattan furniture would be the answer. Rattan is slightly lighter than cane. Either of these would provide the conservatory with a light and airy feel in summer yet a cosy and warm feeling in winter. They would be amply durable enough in order to withstand ultra violet exposure and light enough weight wise to move around. In summer they can even be taken outside if required.
Although can furniture is purchasable in many different shapes and sizes you must take into account what the conservatory's main purpose will be. Obviously if it is an extension of the kitchen and will be used as a Dining area than your first priority will be a dining table. If total relaxation is on the cards then a chaise lounge will be needed. It would be best to consider all of this prior to considering any purchases.
